Canada Border Services Agency says it has opened 484 immigration investigations with potential links to extortion in several regions. As of 18 June, the agency reported 139 removal orders and 81 removals in that enforcement work.
The figures need to be read narrowly. They concern people referred through law enforcement and immigration investigations into alleged criminal activity. They do not describe immigrants, international students or any nationality as a whole.
What remains case specific
A removal order follows an individual immigration process and may involve admissibility findings, review rights and other safeguards. An investigation is not a conviction, and reporting on enforcement activity is not a substitute for court findings.
